Portfolio Careers, Etsy, and China & Children...

OPINION

The Portfolio Career revolution. What is it & why should you care? ‍‍

A good friend of mine has been doing some extensive research into the future of work (S/O Nikita Khandwala) and it really inspired me to write my own take on the subject. What's a portfolio career? A portfolio career is the combination of multiple income streams, and types of employment as a part of building your career. I didn’t even know it but that’s basically me. I am about to start working a part-time job, I’m writing for FactZ, I’m founding my own decentralized finance (DeFi) startup & running a small YouTube channel. In fact, three out of four of those things bring in zero money for me right now. So, it begs the question, what’s the point of having a portfolio career if you’re basically still earning by the hour?

With Depop being the 10th most visited site among GenZ in the US, this is the perfect way to expand its reach into a younger market. This trendsetting demographic that have sustainability high on their priorities have helped aid the likes of Thread Up, Poshmark & Depop to success!

Is China's 3 child policy going to make a difference?

You may have seen in the news this week that China have made a policy shift and are now allowing people to have 3 children. But will this actually make a difference to birth rates? China’s one-child policy was introduced in 1979 with the intent to slow population growth, but in 2016 this became the two-child policy. Despite this, birth rates have still been declining; only 12 million babies were born last year (the lowest number of births recorded since the 1960s ), down from 18 million in 2016.
